I'm Dipen, and I host Topsail Paradise, a house for up to 22 guests in North Topsail Beach. Every fall I hear from families and friends who can work from anywhere and would rather do it a two-block walk from the ocean. Here's what the house offers for a working stay, and what to expect from the island in the quiet months.

Can you really work remotely from a beach house here?

Yes. The house has 1 Gbps Wi-Fi, and we share the network details only after your booking is confirmed. That's plenty for video calls in several rooms at once.

What makes it work in practice is space. With 8 bedrooms, people can take calls behind closed doors, and four of the bedrooms have private baths. The second floor is the gathering floor, with the kitchen, dining area and a large open family room, and the coffee and wine bar nook off the kitchen has a table for four. Bring a laptop stand and headphones, and you'll be set.

If you need a dedicated office setup with a monitor and desk chair, bring what you need. I'd rather tell you that now than have you surprised.

How long can we stay in the fall and winter?

From October through April the minimum stay is 3 nights, and check-in days are more flexible than in summer. Online booking on our booking page covers stays of up to 28 nights. For a longer stay, contact us and we'll talk it through.

Check-in is 4 PM and checkout is 10 AM. September is still a summer week at our house, with a 7-night minimum, so a fall work stay most often starts in October.

What does a remote-work week look like here?

Here's how I'd spend one:

• Before work: coffee in the bar nook and a walk on the beach, about two blocks away. In the off-season you may have long stretches of sand to yourself.
• Lunch break: a swim. From October 1 to May 15 pool heat is free and self-serve, so you turn it on yourself. It's warm but not spa-hot, since weather and wind affect it.
• After work: the 2 hot tubs on the first-floor wraparound deck, then dinner off one of the 2 charcoal grills.
• Weekends: fishing in the fall, a day in Surf City, or nothing at all.

What is the weather like for a fall or winter stay?

Mild, mostly. Climate-Data.org lists average highs for North Topsail Beach of about 73 degrees in October, 64 in November and 55 in January, with January lows around 41. Our weather by month guide has the full table.

Hurricane season runs through November 30, so for stays in October and November we recommend travel insurance. A storm or a mandatory evacuation isn't by itself a refund of rent; the full policy is on the booking page.

What's open nearby in the off-season?

Groceries are easy. The Food Lion in Sneads Ferry is about 7 miles away, roughly 13 minutes, and its store page lists hours of 6 AM to 11 PM daily. Mitchell Seafood in Sneads Ferry sells local shrimp.

What makes the house practical for a longer stay?

The everyday stuff that matters after the first week:

• Laundry: 2 washers and 2 dryers.
• EV charging: a Level 2 charger on the property.
• Kitchen: a full kitchen, a ground-floor freezer and seating for about 10 to 12 at the table and counter.
• Parking: a driveway for 6 to 8 cars, with more along the side.
• Getting around: an outside elevator from the ground floor to the first and second floors for groceries and luggage, and an optional 6-seat golf cart add-on for short trips (see the golf cart page for pricing). Military families who book direct get the cart free.

The house sleeps 22 in 8 bedrooms and 6.5 baths, so it suits a big family or several households working remotely together. The bedroom layout shows how the rooms split. It's for overnight guests only, and pets aren't allowed.
