Labor Day Week 2027 at Topsail Island: Late-Summer Days

Labor Day 2027 falls on Monday, September 6, so the classic Labor Day week at Topsail Island runs Saturday, September 4 to Saturday, September 11. It's one of my favorite weeks of the year: the ocean is still around 80 degrees, the summer crowds have thinned, and the fall fishing season is just getting going.

I'm Dipen, and I host Topsail Paradise, a house for up to 22 guests in North Topsail Beach. Labor Day week is a last-hurrah week for a lot of families and a first trip of fall for others. Here's what it's like, what to plan around, and how to book it.

When is Labor Day week 2027?

Labor Day is Monday, September 6, 2027. From May through September we rent by the week with a 7-night minimum, and Saturday-to-Saturday is the pattern we prefer, so Labor Day week at our house is September 4 to 11. Check-in is 4 PM and checkout is 10 AM.

If your group can only start on another day, ask before you book. Another 7-night start day is sometimes possible.

What's the weather like on Topsail Island in early September?

Warm and still very much beach weather. Climate-Data.org lists September averages for North Topsail Beach of about 80 degrees for the high, 70 for the low, and about 80 degrees for the ocean, barely below August.

September is also the wettest month on average, at about 6.8 inches, mostly from short storms. Plan a rainy afternoon or two: a game tournament, a movie, or a long lunch out. Our weather by month guide has the full year.

What should we know about hurricane season?

Labor Day week sits in hurricane season, which runs June 1 to November 30 according to NOAA. NOAA's Climate Prediction Center says August through October are typically the peak months.

Most weeks pass without a storm, but plan for the chance. Our policy says a storm or a mandatory evacuation isn't by itself a refund of rent, so we recommend travel insurance for stays from June through November. What is there to do around Labor Day week?

• The beach, with more room. Once the holiday weekend passes, the sand gets quieter through the week.
• Fall fishing starts. In September the mullet start moving, red drum push into the surf and inlet, and Spanish mackerel and bluefish show up, per our North Topsail Beach fishing guide. Seaview Pier is about 3 miles from the house.
• Sea turtle nests. The town says turtles nest from mid-May through August and the eggs incubate for about 60 days, so some nests can still be hatching around Labor Day. Lights off on the beach at night, please. Our sea turtle season guide has the rules.

Is the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival on Labor Day weekend?

Not lately. The 2026 Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival was held September 25 and 26 at the Sneads Ferry Community Center, 126 Park Lane, with a parade, live music, craft vendors, fireworks and NC shrimp. That was its 55th year.

The 2027 dates weren't posted when I wrote this. If the festival is part of your plan, check the official listing or the festival's Facebook page before you book, and look at the weeks after Labor Day too.

How does the house work for a Labor Day week group?

Topsail Paradise sleeps 22 in 8 bedrooms and 6.5 baths. The bedroom layout shows who sleeps where, and there's an outside elevator from the ground floor to the first and second floors for grandparents and luggage.

• The pool: a private saltwater pool on the ground level. Pool heat isn't included from May 16 through September 30, but in early September the water is usually warm from the weather. Free, self-serve heat starts October 1.
• 2 hot tubs on the first-floor wraparound deck for the evenings.
• Cooking for a crowd: a full kitchen, 2 charcoal grills and a ground-floor freezer. Mitchell Seafood in Sneads Ferry is a good stop for local shrimp.
• Rinsing off: 2 outdoor showers out back and 2 hoses out front.
• Laundry: 2 washers and 2 dryers.

How do we book Labor Day week?

Check the live calendar on our booking page. If your group has settled on Labor Day, check early, since there's only one Labor Day week a year. Booking direct saves 15%, and you'll see the full total before you pay.

If Labor Day week is taken, the next two weeks of September are just as warm in the water and even quieter on the beach. And if you'd rather wait for cooler days and free pool heat, October is next.
