North Topsail Beach golf cart rules
The town follows North Carolina state law for golf carts. In short:
- On public streets, a cart must be licensed, insured and registered with the NC DMV as a low-speed vehicle. Ours is.
- The driver must hold a valid driver's license (age 16 or older in North Carolina) and carry it, along with proof of insurance.
- Carts may only drive on public roads posted 35 mph or slower. They may cross straight over a faster road only to reach another road posted 35 mph or slower.
- At the town's beach-access lots, golf carts follow the same paid parking rules as cars and must park in marked, legal spaces. The town lets property owners register two vehicles to park free, and our cart is registered to the house, so its beach parking is covered.
