Every fall, I get the same message from guests who stayed with us in the summer: "Is the house open for Thanksgiving?" It is, and honestly, I think fall is one of the best-kept secrets on Topsail Island. The crowds thin out, the light over the marsh turns gold, and there's room for the whole family under one roof.

Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26. A long weekend usually means Wednesday, Nov 25 to Sunday, Nov 29. When I checked on October 12, our Thanksgiving week was already booked, so if your family can gather a weekend early, a Friendsgiving stay like Friday, Nov 20 to Monday, Nov 23 (3-night minimum) is worth a look. Check live availability for your dates.

I'm Dipen, your host at Topsail Paradise. Here's how I'd plan a fall or Thanksgiving stay for a big group, including the honest details on our free pool heat.

Why a big house beats three small ones for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is about being together, and that's hard when your family is split across a hotel and two condos. Topsail Paradise has 8 bedrooms and 6.5 baths and sleeps 22. The two master suites sleep 5 each, and the six other bedrooms sleep 2 each, so grandparents, couples, and cousins can all have their own space and still meet in the kitchen for coffee.

One guest put it better than I can after her extended family's week here: "It was perfect for a large family and lots of young children. The middle floor made the perfect spot for gathering and sharing meals."

A quick, friendly note: the house is for overnight guests only, up to 22. We don't host events, parties, or outside guests. Thanksgiving here means the people staying with you around one table, and that's exactly what the house is built for.

If you're the one in charge of the turkey, you'll want to know what you're working with. The house has a full kitchen, outdoor grills (great for a second protein or a fish fry while the oven is busy), and two washer/dryer sets for the table linens and the kids' sandy clothes.

A guest who stayed with us in August wrote: "The kitchen was WELL equipped with everything we needed (that we couldn't bring)." I'd still bring any specialty items your family can't do without, like Grandma's roasting pan or the pie dish with history.

For groceries, a convenient full-size option is the Food Lion in Sneads Ferry (965 Old Folkstone Rd.). There's also a Food Lion on NC Hwy 50 in Surf City and a Harris Teeter in Hampstead. Holiday-week store hours can change, so my best advice is simple: do the big shop before Thursday and call ahead if you're cutting it close.

The free heated pool: what to expect (honestly)

This is the part people ask about most, so let me be clear.

  • Pool heat is free for stays from October 1 through May 15.
  • It's self-serve. You turn the heater on yourself with the instructions in your guest guide. No request needed.
  • Weather and wind affect the water temperature. A sunny, calm afternoon feels very different from a breezy, gray one.
  • It is not spa-hot. Think comfortable-for-a-swim, not hot tub.

For that hot-tub warmth, we have two hot tubs. My favorite fall routine is a swim in the heated pool, then a few minutes in the hot tub before dinner.

One group stayed in September with 18 adults, and the guest who booked wrote: "Both hot tubs and pool were very clean and we loved the option to heat the pool as we had some cooler days."

What fall weather is really like on Topsail

I won't promise you summer in November. Based on long-term climate averages for North Topsail Beach, November highs run in the mid-60s early in the month and settle in the low 60s by late November, with lows around 50°F. The ocean averages in the mid-60s in November and cools toward the end of the month, which is why most fall guests enjoy the beach with a jacket on and save swimming for the heated pool.

Pack layers. Mornings and evenings can be cool and breezy, and the sun sets early (around 5 p.m. by late November). That early sunset is a gift, though. The decks look out over the marsh and the sound, and a Topsail sunset with a warm drink in hand is hard to beat.

Getting to the beach (and around the island)

Topsail Paradise is a walk to the beach, not right on the sand, and I'd rather you know that up front. For a big group hauling chairs, blankets, and kids, our 6-passenger electric golf cart makes it easy. It's available for $300 for the stay, and because its tags are registered to the house, beach parking for the cart is free. Leave the cars in the driveway.

A few cart basics: the driver needs a valid driver's license, and the cart is for roads posted 35 mph or below. One couple said it was "very worth it for carting beach gear and running to the store and coffee shop."

If anyone in your group drives an EV, we have a Level 2 charger on site. And with 1 Gbps WiFi, the person who has to check email on Friday won't hold anyone up.

Things to do Thanksgiving weekend

Fall on Topsail is slow in the best way. A few ideas:

  • Visit the sea turtle hospital. The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Surf City is closed to the public in October for upgrades, but it's scheduled to offer guided tours Friday, November 27 through Sunday, November 29, 2026. Reservations are required, tours often sell out, and each time slot is capped at 15 tickets, so a group of 22 will need to split up or email the center ahead of time about larger groups.
  • Walk out on Seaview Pier. It sits at the end of Fishing Pier Lane in North Topsail Beach and is a classic spot for a breezy fall stroll or a little fishing. Hours and restaurant service shift outside summer, so call (910) 328-3172 before you go. Bringing rods? Here are my Seaview Pier fishing tips.
  • Have a beach walk after dinner. The beach is quiet this time of year, and a post-turkey walk is a family tradition for a lot of our guests.
  • Stay in. Games in the living room, football on TV, leftovers by the pool. Some of the best Thanksgivings don't leave the house.

Planning tips for a fall or Thanksgiving stay

  • Minimum stay: Outside of May–September, we have a 3-night minimum, so a Wednesday-to-Saturday or Thursday-to-Sunday Thanksgiving stay works well.
  • Times: Check-in is 4:00 PM and checkout is 10:00 AM.
  • No pets, please.
  • Pool heat is self-serve. Your guest guide shows how to turn it on.
  • Book early. Big houses that sleep 22 are rare, and holiday weekends go first. Check Thanksgiving dates.

One family put it simply: "Would stay here again! This was great for our large group." That's what I want for your Thanksgiving too.
