If you're visiting Camp Lejeune without a military ID, start with the Visitor Center in Building TT-13, next to the Wilson Gate on Wilson Boulevard, open weekdays 5 AM to 9 PM and Saturdays 8 AM to 4:30 PM. You'll need a REAL ID, and your sponsor should submit your access request through the base's IARA system at least 7 days before you arrive.

I'm Dipen, and I host Topsail Paradise, a house for up to 22 overnight guests in North Topsail Beach, on the Sneads Ferry side of the base. Many of our guests are families coming in for a retirement, a PCS move, a graduation or a homecoming. Here's the visitor information I share with them, checked against the official Camp Lejeune Provost Marshal's Office page, plus how a big family can stay together nearby.

Base rules change, so confirm with the base or your Marine before you drive.

Where is the Camp Lejeune Visitor Center, and when is it open?

The Visitor Center sits in Building TT-13, adjacent to the Wilson Gate on Wilson Boulevard. The base lists its hours as Monday through Friday, 5 AM to 9 PM, and Saturday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM. It is closed on federal holidays, and the base's Base Access page says visitors must be pre-vetted through IARA for those days.

At the Visitor Center, staff validate your identity, run a background check, and take a photo and fingerprints before issuing a DBIDS pass. Without pre-registration the wait can be long.

What is the Sneads Ferry Gate, and should we use it?

The Sneads Ferry Gate is on the Sneads Ferry side of the base, the side closest to North Topsail Beach. The base's gate table lists it as open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, along with the Wilson and Holcomb gates.

The catch: the Visitor Center is at the Wilson Gate, not the Sneads Ferry Gate. If anyone in your group still needs a pass, plan the first trip through Wilson Boulevard on the Jacksonville side. Once passes are sorted, the Sneads Ferry Gate is the one on our side of the base. For reference, Jacksonville is about 40 minutes from our house by car.

What ID and paperwork do visitors need?

The base requires a REAL ID for anyone without a DoD credential. Licenses marked "not valid for federal purposes" may not be accepted. If you're driving, bring:

  • A valid driver's license
  • State vehicle registration
  • Proof of insurance

Guests 18 and older in an escorted group need a REAL ID or a US passport. Check everyone's license before you leave home.

How do we get a visitor pass ahead of time?

The base now asks sponsors to submit access requests for unvetted visitors at least 7 days before arrival. As of its April 2026 advisory, the Trusted Traveler Program is suspended, so plan on one of these:

  • IARA visitor pass. Visitors with a REAL ID use the Installation Access Request Application, then pick up or activate the pass at the Visitor Center. Your Marine can request unescorted access for up to 10 guests through IARA.
  • Escorted access. A DoD ID holder can request immediate escorted access for up to 5 guests through IARA, now available at all gates. The sponsor and guests arrive in one vehicle, stay together and leave together.
  • Larger groups. More than 10 guests need a request from a CAC-enabled computer, with longer lead times: 7 days for up to 25 people, 10 days for 26 to 50, 15 days for 51 to 75 and 30 days for more than that.

The base lists DBIDS temporary passes as valid for up to two weeks. For a homecoming, coordinate early with the unit, since the base notes those need extra planning.

Some veterans also qualify for expanded access, including Purple Heart recipients, former POWs and veterans with service-connected disabilities. The base asks them to bring an eligibility letter and ID to the Visitor Center.

How do families plan a retirement, PCS or graduation trip?

The ceremony belongs on base. What families plan is everything around it: where everyone sleeps and where you all eat together afterward.

A few things I've seen work well:

  • Retirements. Grandparents, siblings and old friends fly in from all over. One house keeps them together instead of spread across a hotel hallway.
  • PCS moves. Families arriving or leaving often need a week between houses. A big kitchen, 2 washers and 2 dryers, and room for the kids to spread out make that week a lot calmer.
  • Graduations. Camp Geiger is part of Camp Lejeune, and graduation weekends bring whole families in at once. Ask your Marine's unit for timing, and book once the date is firm.
  • Homecomings. Dates can shift. Our off-season minimum is 3 nights, and booking direct means you can talk to me, not a call center.

Our military milestone stays guide covers these trips in more detail, including our street's namesake, a Camp Lejeune Marine.

Where can a big family stay near Camp Lejeune?

On-base lodging and Onslow Beach stays need a DoD ID, and hotels near Camp Lejeune usually mean booking several rooms for a large family. Topsail Paradise sleeps 22 in 8 bedrooms and 6.5 baths, about a two-block walk to the beach in North Topsail Beach. The bedroom layout shows who sleeps where, from 2 master suites to a bunk room for the kids.

For older relatives, there's an outside elevator from the ground floor to the first and second floors. The house has a private saltwater pool and 2 hot tubs, and pool heat is free and self-serve from October 1 to May 15 (warm, not spa-hot). The house is for overnight guests only, with no pets.

Is there a military thank-you when you book direct?

Yes. Active-duty, veteran and military families get the optional 6-seat golf cart free when they book direct; see the golf cart page for details and pricing for everyone else. Mention your service in your inquiry before you book and I'll confirm it with you.

Booking direct on our booking page also saves 15%, and you'll see the full total before you pay. From May through September we rent by the week, and October through April has a 3-night minimum.

Welcome to the area, and thank you for your service.

Is the Sneads Ferry Gate open 24 hours?

Can my Marine bring guests on base without a pass?
